Affordable Trophies Podcast – Episode 006

Episode 006 of the Affordable Trophies Podcast has been uploaded! This blog entry will serve as the show notes for this episode.

Regina and Ryan discuss how our detail plates work. From the time when we designed our first traveling award to the most current, we have tried to take the most practical approach to traveling awards. We talk about the two different types of plates that are used to engrave your yearly champion. We discuss the options available for having your future detail plates engraved.

Tip to Save Time – Write Your Invoice Number on Your Award

We have found that a number of leagues make the winner responsible for ordering his detail plate; when he asks for a quote for a new plate for the award, he has to be able to tell us who originally placed the order to help us find the order in our system. Often he does not know, or gives us an incorrect name (for example, Joe Smith, when the order was placed under the name Joseph Smith). If you can give us the order number, that is the quickest way for us to find the previous information for the order. So, if you were to write that number on the bottom of the award, whoever places the order for the new plate will always be able to tell us what we need to know to ensure that the engraving of the new plate is done in the same format as the other plates on the award.

Parts and Components

Affordable Trophies is your retail source for completed trophies for fantasy sports. We do not sell parts or components. We do not sell cut or blank plates of any kind, except those included with awards.

We can certainly provide detail plates with engraving for customers that have purchased a traveling award from us. And we can provide the tops of awards for customers who are upgrading their award that they purchased from us, or have damaged the top of an award they purchased from us. Unfortunately, we cannot provide these items for awards not purchased from Affordable Trophies.

Do I Really Need a Tool for the Traveling Awards?

Some of our traveling awards have “minor assembly required“. For these awards, we offer a long handle nut driver; we also suggest that a socket with an extender can be used. Please check to see if you have one of these tools before you make your purchase.  It is no problem at all if you do not wish to purchase the tool from us; if that is the case and you do not have such a tool, we suggest checking at your local auto parts store before purchase for availability of the long handle tool or socket with extender. We sell these items at cost as a courtesy to our customers. If you decide to get one from us later, the cost of shipping the tool alone can double the cost of the tool. Take a few minutes up front to ensure that you will have the tool before you need it, and it will save some time, cost, and trouble!

Hints on Assembly of Traveling Trophies

Some of our awards require a minimal amount of assembly; namely, attaching the top to the base. Below are some helpful hints for assembling a traveling trophy purchased from Affordable Trophies:

Very important: Please read all instructions before attempting to put the top on your award. We include assembly instructions with any order that includes an award that requires assembly; if you do not find assembly instructions, please email us for an instruction sheet.

Make sure to take everything out of your package and inspect for damage.

Make sure you have the right tool for the job.

For our traveling footballs and traveling beer can awards, make sure the rod is unscrewed to fit just a little past the hole in the base. Most awards are at the correct height when shipped, but may need to be adjusted a bit due to movement during shipment.

If the top never tightens and you are using a socket with extender, then the socket itself is not deep enough for the rod, or the extender does not go up into the base far enough. The tool we offer to provide will be long enough and deep enough to do the job.

Only hand-tighten the top; it should be just snug enough for to hold the figure in place.

Make sure you assemble your award on a solid surface. We suggest putting a towel on a table top to help avoid scratching your award during assembly.

When fully assembled, your award will be ready to present and will last for many years to come.
